Day 57

I snapped the photo on the left this morning as I drove to work. I saw this group at a different corner a few weeks ago and was so bummed that I didn't have my camera. So I when I saw them today I took the picture even though the angle sort of sucked and I couldn't get a good shot of the really good signs. Then later when I was having lunch with my old boss, we were seated next to this screen and I instantly knew it would be my picture of the day. I felt like I was sitting next to a confessional screen. So it sort of fits with the first photo.

I couldn't decide between them so I chose to post them both. The one of Union Station is the ceiling. Cool, huh?

Day 50

Some tough decisions were made this week after many careful, thoughtful discussions and soliciting of opinions and internet research and quiet meditation. We're on the right track, have been making great progress and now, we'll see even more progress. This is a good thing.
Today, I dropped off applications to a charter school near us. It's a public school still in our district but because it's a charter, there is more latitude in the curriculum and it can be a bit more alternative and progressive. We think it might be a more positive learning environment for the boys. Now it's a waiting game as we wait to find out what the enrollment will be and if there will be 2 slots available for us. When I walked out of the school gate this morning, I turned and saw this sign and it really resonated with me. Not because it points the way to the church.

It's the promise of safety, of refuge that appeals to me.

It was just what I needed to see.

Day 40

The sun broke through for a brief moment tonight and lit up all the storm clouds. I loved the sepia tone it created on regular old tree tops.

There's nothing like a steaming hot bath after sparring class.

It was a really fun sparring class tonight. Lots of drills, focus on technique and we still managed to get in two rounds of sparring.

My legs are still humming.

Day 32

Dean was home today with a fever and a bad cough. Of course he's my picture of the day.

Life, Spontaneous Laughter on the Side

Last night while Dean finished his bath, Jack and I made funny faces in the mirror. I started it by pushing the tip of my nose up so I was all teeth and gums and looked very pig-like. Jack started laughing and then did it to himself to see what he'd look like. We laughed together and then he pushed his nose down and flared his nostrils. I mimicked him and we laughed and then, still holding my nose down I looked back at Dean and found him laying in the tub pushing his nose down and flaring his nostrils! The three of us started laughing and kept laughing well after it was over. It was a perfect 'in the moment' moment.
