Day 111

I have been looking for a better lunchbox ever since the boys started elementary school. The ones made for little kids are never big enough. The ones made for adults aren't cute enough. And it's not just the lunchboxes. It's also the containers. I made a decision when they started school that I would try to send them with as little disposable containers as possible. The amount of trash that is generated at an elementary school in a day is obscene.
In fact, it has been estimated that on average a school-age child using a disposable lunch generates 67 pounds of waste per school year. That equates to 18,760 pounds of lunch waste for just one average-size elementary school. - source
So I have bought countless containers of various sizes so I can avoid using plastic bags. I bought each of the boys a thermos so I could fill it with chocolate milk instead of sending juice boxes. Still, the lunchboxes were too small so I'd end up having to use some plastic baggies or else I couldn't fit all their food in their lunchboxes. I was on the verge of designing my own. I had drawn it up and was researching how to get it made. Then I found and I knew I had found my solution. The lunchboxes were the right size and the containers make it way easier to pack their lunches and it means less cleanup. My two new lunchboxes and 4 pack of containers arrived, appropriately enough, on Earth Day. The boys took their new lunchboxes to school on Friday. Getting their lunches ready on Friday was easy. Instead of making numerous trips to the container cabinet to grab the lids or pick another container, I just filled the trays, put the lids on and slipped them into their lunchboxes. There was still plenty of room leftover for their thermoses, pudding cup, ice block and an apple. As for cleanup - it couldn't have been easier. The boys just had to lift the lid and dump the leftovers into the trash. They fit in the top rack of the dishwasher. I'm pretty thrilled with purchase. I would definitely recommend this to anyone - and not just for the kids!

Those are GREAT! It's soooo hard to find sectioned containers with a section for a sandwich. Thanks for sharing - I'll definitely order some.
