It is Sunday, after all

I have a confession to make. I prefer it when Jack doesn't nap during the day now.

Unbelievable, isn't it? It's purely selfish on my part. I'm not sure if he's quite ready to give up his afternoon naps yet but it sure is easier to get him to bed when he goes without it. Last Sunday night I got him to bed at 6:30pm! We didn't get home tonight until 7:30 so by the time they had their pajamas on and teeth brushed it was 8:00. I told them they'd each get a story and then it was time to go to sleep and I wasn't going to lay down with him. Fifteen minutes later I made good on my word and they did likewise, although Jack said he was going to be sad if I didn't lay down with him. He was asleep before I had finished tucking in Dean.

Speaking of Dean, what a little pistol he was today. Feisty, cranky, mouthy little thing would have spent the entire day in a time out if I hadn't finally just made him take a nap. Lest ye think I just let him crank it out until late in the afternoon - I had him down for a nap by 12:15 without lunch. He woke up at 1:30 in a much better mood and had his lunch then. When Dean was being especially stinkerish, Jack told him that he'd better be nice or Santa wasn't going to bring him any toys. Dean replied, "I don't care. He isn't real anyway."

Really? Already?? I thought he'd be at least 6 before he stopped believing in Santa.

Sigh.

The Announcement

Dean: I don't like hot milk anymore.

I am so not even kidding!!! He announced it at dinner last night - just like that.

I. Don't. Like. Hot. Milk. Anymore.

Who are you and what have you done with my Dean?

Instead, he informed me that he likes cold milk and he likes different kinds of milk including cow milk, soy milk and rice milk. Sometimes he even likes to mix his milks ie. cow milk and soy milk together or soy milk and rice milk or he'll even do a milk trio. I know what you're thinking and I had to really let go of my preconceived notions about milk integration even though my first thought was WHY? Why would you do that? Anyway, milk isn't the only thing he's mixing these days. The other at risk food group is cereal. That's right, he mixes rice krispies with cheerios. That one is much more difficult to get over. Rice krispies get soggy much faster than cheerios so suddenly you have rice krispie mush mixed with your crispy wheaty cheerios? Blech!

In other news, he told me last night that Evy (from school) is his girlfriend because she always likes to play with him. I told him that I really like Evy and that she's a sweet girl. He nodded and smiled. Then I told him that she has nice parents, too. He looked at me and said sadly, "I don't know them."

The one about nothing

The boys . . . they did not nap today. Dean just came over to me and burrowed his way onto my lap and moaned that he's just so tired. So we're having an early dinner, then a bath and off to bed early.
It's been a pretty low key weekend which was richly needed given our very busy week. We drove down to LAX on Wednesday night to pick up Chad and have dinner with him then drove him down to his hotel in Anaheim. Thursday night we went out with our friends Paul and Colleen - had a nice dinner and then went bowling. The boys stayed with Peter and Julian. Our friend Eddie was in town so he joined us for dinner on Friday night.
I just needed to rest this weekend. Today we went for a walk with the boys and they rode their new superman bikes. They're getting really good on them. They still have training wheels but they're really understanding how to stop and steer. I think my brother learned how to ride a 2 wheeler when he was 3 and as we were walking around with J and D I wondered how on earth that was possible.
Anyway, I'm sorry this isn't a very exciting post. Perhaps I'll have something more interesting later.
Go Colts!!!

Finally, a post!

Hi.
Remember me?
Sigh. I know it's been nearly two months since my last post and I'm sorry, really I am. I had started to post something back in December when my friend Eddie, and loyal reader, told me I hadn't posted since November 29th. I was stunned and horrified that it had been so long since I had written.
It isn't for lack of material. Jack and Dean provide hoots on a regular basis. Our favorite phrase right now is one that Dean uses regularly about a variety of subjects. "Let's find out." I'll give you an example:
Me: Dean, it's time to put your pajamas on.
Dean: But I'm cold and if I put my pajamas on I'm just going to be colder.
Me: Well, maybe but it's time for pajamas.
Dean: Let's find out.
Or
Dean: Is this the scary Spongebob?
Me: Um, I think so.
Dean: Let's find out.
Then there was the time that Dean split open his lip at daycare and it bled a lot and we had to take him to the doctor to make sure he wouldn't need stitches. This happened the same day that they were going on a field trip to see Charlotte's Web and Jack was so concerned that Dean wouldn't get to see the movie. So concerned that he wanted to go with us to the doctor rather than go to the movie without Dean. Anyway, we made it to the doc and back in time for Dean to see the movie and he didn't need stitches. But, just a week or so later when they were in the tub, Jack threw a toy, hit Dean in the lip and he started bleeding again. He was crying and then when he saw blood he said very dramatically, "I did it again?!!!"
That's our Dean - equally talented in comedy or drama.
And Jackie - he's just pure love. Especially when Dean is being a pistol and getting in trouble. That's when Jack will tell us how much he loves us.
Me: DEAN!! Go wash your hands for dinner!!! If I have to tell you one more time you're going into a time out!
Jack: I love you Mom.
Or
Dean: I. Want. Some. Hot. Milk. I waaaannnt sooommme hot milllllllllk. Please, please, please can't I have some hot milk? Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeese?
Me: Dean, you cannot have hot milk until you eat your dinner.
Dean: No! Noooooooo. Noooooooo. (flings himself to the floor)
Jack: I love you Mom.

You get the idea.
So, it isn't that there has been nothing to write about. And I could say I've just been too busy and that would be partly true. It was a busy time getting ready for our trip to Pennsylvania and getting Christmas presents sent out. So busy in fact that I didn't even send out Christmas cards this year. I started thinking about sending out Happy New Year cards but it's now mid January and, let's face it, ain't gonna happen.
I blame work for some of it. We laid off 20% of our workforce in December and I got very busy before the announcements then, once the announcements were made, extremely busy until the day I left for our vacation. I've never been so busy. The good news, besides not being one of the laid off, is that I must be handling my stress better. After all, I didn't break out into hives this time. However, my back went out but who knows if that's stress or a byproduct of sharing twin beds with the boys when we were in Virginia.
Bygones.
The bottom line is I've neglected ye olde blog.
I'll do better, I promise.
Here's a few pictures to make it up to you.
